I received an offer from Walmart Global Tech India for a Senior Software Engineer role in Bangalore. My background includes 6+ YOE, with experience in backend/fullstack engineering and hands-on AI. I previously worked at a top unicorn with a strong engineering culture and am currently at a product-based startup (PBC). The Walmart offer details are: Base: ₹36L Variable: ₹6.5L RSUs: ₹8.8L over 3 years (~₹2.9L/year) Total CTC: ~₹52L Walmart did not account for my existing ESOPs. I am questioning if ₹52L is typical for a Senior SDE at Walmart India (6+ YOE) or if it's a lowball offer. I am seeking insights on compensation bands or negotiation experiences from others who have recently joined.

Applied for SDE-3 Java Full stack developer role. My current YOE is 4.5 years as SDE-2 in a MAANG company. Recruiter reached out on LinkedIn. **1st Round (Coding)**: Multiple LC-medium type questions like Min Stack, Delete Node in a Linked List, Trapping Rain Water, Two Sum, Binary Tree Level Order Traversal. I was able to answer all questions. **2nd Round (LLD)**: Focused on JAVA fundamentals, new features (JAVA 21), comparison with Scala, concurrency control in JAVA and distributed systems. Involved code review and bug fixing. I was grilled hard on points I brought up. **3rd Round (HLD + Behavior)**: Discussion on new business, motivation, and HLD question on designing a website for document validation and storage (highlighting S3 for file bytes, DB for metadata, async workers for delay, API design, and scaling). Overall verdict: I was selected but downleveled to an SDE-2 role. Reason for downlevel: My overall experience (4.5 YOE) was considered lower than most SDE-3s in the organization (>6 years required) and my performance in the 2nd round did not meet the SDE-3 bar. I declined the offer despite the compensation being good (almost equal to an SDE-3, matching my current compensation).

I applied directly on the portal and the recruiter reached out with the Online Assessment. Online Assessment (OA): The questions were on difference array and a hard question on heaps. I solved both questions. Round 1: DSA round: I was asked three DSA questions. The first question involved finding the longest safest path in a string with lowercase letters and hashes, with a follow-up allowing one hash to be safe. The second question was on string matching and two pointers. I solved all three questions. Round 2: LLD: I was asked to design the Low-level design of Cache. I designed the Cache using OOD principles, SOLID principles, and strategy pattern for eviction policy. I coded for LRU Eviction policy and ran the complete code. The interviewer was impressed by my code quality. Round 3: AA round: This round was taken by a very senior engineering manager and was entirely behavioral. I was asked questions on my project, hackathon experiences, and standard behavioral questions answerable using the STAR technique. I received the call from the recruiter on the same day stating that I had been selected and they wanted to offer.

Round 4 (EM): Project architecture discussions, e-commerce database design, Kafka internals, database scaling strategies, Redis data structures for caching, rate limiter design, design patterns. Round 5 (COO): Behavioural questions, puzzles, career ambition, leadership problems, culture fit check. Selected for the Lead position. Initial package range mentioned was 45-60 LPA. Final offer: 40 LPA fixed + 10 LPA ESOPs (total 50 LPA). I had to travel to Bangalore for the final 2 face-to-face rounds. I felt the offer was disrespectful given the time, energy, and effort invested, and ultimately rejected it.

Background: I graduated from a Tier 3 college (CSE) and have 1 year of internship experience at a travel-tech company, working on backend APIs with Spring Boot, AWS, Redis, and SQL. Offer Details: I received a Backend Engineer offer for 12 LPA (CTC). Interview Process: Round 1 (DSA): Two medium-level tree-based coding problems (Construct Binary Tree from Traversals, Lowest Common Ancestor / Boundary Traversal type). Round 2 (System Design): I designed Splitwise, focusing on class design, efficient balance calculation, data consistency, scalability, REST API endpoints, and DB schema. Round 3 (Managerial): I was asked to implement HashMap core logic and collision handling; we discussed project ownership, debugging, and teamwork. Round 4 (VP Round): We had a deep dive into my projects (architecture, challenges, impact), and I answered SQL questions (joins, aggregation, optimization) and discussed cloud exposure (AWS, caching, monitoring). Tech Stack Used: Java, Spring Boot, MySQL, Redis, AWS, JUnit, RestAssured. Preparation Strategy: I solved 150+ LeetCode problems (Trees, Graphs, DP) for DSA, watched videos from CodeKarle and Gaurav Sen for System Design, reviewed Java Fundamentals (Collections, Multithreading, JVM), and focused on explaining scalability and data flow for my projects. Key Takeaways: Tree questions are common for backend interviews; it's crucial to have one strong project I can explain end-to-end; I learned to be clear on API and database design, and confidence and communication are as important as coding skills.
