I attended the Infosys SP/DSE off-campus coding test for freshers. The test pattern and evaluation were different from usual online tests. Test Setup: Mode: Offline (at an assigned test center) Candidates: 500+ at the venue Slots: Afternoon slot (2nd slot) Important Insight: The role I was shortlisted for depended heavily on the difficulty level of problems solved. Easy + Medium solutions → Mostly DSE role Hard solutions → SP roles Complex solutions → Higher SP bands Problem selection and accuracy were very critical. Coding Round Details: Total questions: 4 Needed to solve at least 3 out of 4 to stay competitive. Difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, Hard, Complex. Nature of questions: Easy: Query-based operations on a 2D list with a long problem statement and tricky logic. Medium: Two pointers + Sliding Window (standard pattern). Hard: Graph-based problem combined with state-based DP, requiring strong fundamentals. Complex: Tree-based problem with range queries, extremely tough with hard-to-identify edge cases. Final Thoughts: The test was about the level of problems solved, not just solving them. Reading and understanding long problem statements was crucial. Edge cases mattered a lot, especially for Hard/Complex problems. Passing sample test cases did not guarantee final acceptance. Overall, it was a well-designed but challenging test, filtering candidates based on depth of problem-solving.
