Summary
I completed two rounds (DSA and LLD) for an SDE 2 interview at Amazon in India; the coding round included Next Greater Element and Search in Rotated Sorted Array, and the design round required a package delivery system.
How it went
Background: around 5 years of experience, Backend (Java), Fintech.
Process so far
- Recruiter call. The recruiter shared prep docs and explained the loop: 4 rounds, 2 coding and 2 system design, with Leadership Principles (LPs) in every round. Very helpful.
- Day 1: two rounds, back to back.
Round 1: DSA (60 min, LiveCode, Senior SDE)
-
Problem 1: Next Greater Element (monotonic stack). https://leetcode.com/problems/next-greater-element-i/
-
Problem 2: Search in Rotated Sorted Array (modified binary search). https://leetcode.com/problems/search-in-rotated-sorted-array/
-
LiveCode is a plain shared editor: no compiler, no autocomplete.
-
LPs: Bias for Action (acting on an unclear, one-line requirement) and Dive Deep (debugging a production issue down to its root cause). Each had several follow-ups.
Round 2: LLD (60 min, Bluescape whiteboard)
- Question: "Design a package delivery system for an e-commerce company like Amazon. The system gets orders, packages are created for shipment, delivery agents deliver packages to customers, and the system tracks delivery status. Support assigning packages to agents, updating delivery status, and handling unsuccessful delivery attempts."
- Follow-ups: priority for Prime orders; assigning the highest-rated agent to Prime customers.
- LPs:
- Deliver Results
- Something unexpected and how I recovered
Will update with the remaining rounds and the result. Good luck, everyone!
Questions asked (3)
- 01
Next Greater Element
Data Structures & Algorithms · Easy
Open the problemGiven an integer array, for each element find the next greater element that appears to its right. If no such element exists, output -1. A monotonic decreasing stack can be used to achieve O(n) time.
- 02
Search in Rotated Sorted Array
Data Structures & Algorithms · Medium
Open the problemGiven a rotated sorted array of distinct integers and a target value, return the index of the target if it exists, otherwise return -1. The solution uses a modified binary search that accounts for the rotation.
- 03
Package Delivery System Design
System Design
Design a package delivery system for an e‑commerce platform. The system must accept orders, create packages, assign delivery agents, track delivery status, and handle failed deliveries. It should prioritize Prime orders and assign the highest‑rated agent to Prime customers.
How they prepared
The recruiter provided preparation documents outlining the interview loop and recommended reviewing coding problems and system design concepts. I focused on practicing data‑structure algorithms and whiteboard design scenarios.
