Summary
I went through the SAP Labs interview process for a BTP/SDE role, completing an online assessment, technical and system design rounds, and an HR interview.
How it went
Round 0 - Online Assessment (OA) The OA consisted of:
- Python: A very easy coding/problem-solving question.
- SQL: One query involving Window Functions, particularly PARTITION BY and OVER().
- AI/ML: Around 10 MCQs covering basic AI/ML concepts. The OA was relatively straightforward if you have your programming fundamentals, SQL and basic ML concepts clear.
Round 1 - Technical Interview This round focused heavily on projects + CS fundamentals + AI/GenAI concepts.
Project Discussion I was asked about:
- My project and the idea behind it
- What problem I was trying to solve
- How I approached the solution
- Architecture/working of the project
- Challenges I faced and how I solved them
- Middleware and how requests flow through the application
OOPs Questions included:
- Explain the 4 pillars of OOPs with examples
- What is a class vs instance/object?
- Give a real-life example of a class and its instances
- Difference between static, instance and normal members/variables
- Basic OOP concepts and their practical usage
DSA Some basic DSA questions were asked:
- Explain Binary Search and its complexity
- What are Stacks and Queues?
- Real-life applications/examples of stacks and queues
AI / ML / GenAI This was an important part of the interview. I was asked about:
- Difference between AI, ML and Deep Learning
- How does RAG work?
- How does GPT work?
- How does an LLM work?
- Types/categories of LLMs
- Difference between Generative AI and Agentic AI
- What are AI Agents?
- Difference between LangChain and LangGraph
Round 2 - Technical / System Design This round had a mix of project discussion, system design, puzzles and general AI discussion.
Project There was another discussion around my project, including its implementation and technical decisions.
Database Design I was asked to design the database tables for an e-commerce platform similar to Amazon. Things I considered included entities such as:
- Users
- Products
- Categories
- Orders
- Order Items
- Payments
- Addresses
- Cart
- Reviews The focus was on understanding relationships, primary/foreign keys and normalization.
Puzzle I was also given a puzzle/problem-solving question to evaluate logical thinking.
AI Discussion Some broader questions included:
- Real-life applications of AI
- Where can AI be useful?
- What are the risks/disadvantages of AI?
- How can AI impact different industries?
HR Round Finally, I had the HR round, which focused more on:
- Introduction
- Why SAP?
- Why this role?
- Strengths and weaknesses
- Project/team experiences
- Situational and behavioral questions
- Career goals
