Summary

I interviewed for a Backend Engineer 2 position at CARS24. I cleared two rounds but was rejected because I jumped to the solution early without clarifying the requirements.

How it went

Round 1 - DSA

  1. Daily Temperatures - https://leetcode.com/problems/daily-temperatures/description/
  2. LRU - https://leetcode.com/problems/lru-cache/

Round 2 - System Design

Design a lead allocation system.

Given - Call Agents and their capacity and regions they serve. Incoming lead - the region for the lead.

Requirement:

  1. Assign a lead to an available agent without exceeding capacity
  2. Allow releasing of lead from an agent
  3. Get stats of agents - leads they are currently serving

Identified Core entities, pseudocode for above flows, concurrency management while assigning lead, reducing agent lookup time with indexing and caching

Verdict: Rejected for jumping to solution early without clarifying further about requirements.

    Design a Lead Allocation System

    System Design

    Design a lead allocation system.

Given: Call agents with capacity and regions they serve. Incoming lead includes its region.

    Requirements:

    1. Assign a lead to an available agent without exceeding capacity.
    2. Allow releasing of lead from an agent.
    3. Provide stats of agents – leads they are currently serving.

I identified core entities, wrote pseudocode for the flows, considered concurrency management while assigning leads, and discussed reducing agent lookup time with indexing and caching.
