Summary

I interviewed for an SDE 3 role at Safe Security, completed an intro call, a technical DSA round where I solved a Merge Intervals problem, and a high level design round designing Google Calendar, but was rejected.

How it went

Company: Safe Security Role: SDE 3

Current Org: Startup College: Tier-1 YOE: 8+ Current Comp: ~65L (Cash component) + ESOPs

Round 1 - Intro Call (20 min)

  • Basic intro and past project discussions.
  • AI/LLM concepts: What a token is, how tokenization works, and why models hallucinate.
  • CS fundamentals: Difference between a process and a thread.

Round 2 - Technical / DSA

  • Basic intro followed by a deep dive into one of my most challenging past projects.
  • DSA Question: Merge Intervals.

Round 3 - HLD

  • Task: Design Google Calendar.
  • I came up with a design that covered most of the core functionality, but completely missed handling timezones.
  • They also asked some questions around how LLMs work during this round.
  • Self-reflection: I felt I was not able to frame my HLD effectively. Additionally, the interviewer was not participating actively or guiding the discussion, which made it harder to pivot when I missed key edge cases.

Verdict: Rejected.
