Summary

I went through three interview rounds at Rippling, including a task scheduler DSA problem, a Splitwise-like system design, and a multi-tenant leave management HLD, and I was selected for the SDE Intern role with a performance based PPO.

How it went

Hi everyone!

Recently, I got selected for Rippling SDE Intern + Performance-Based PPO through our on-campus placement drive. Sharing my interview experience and compensation.

Offer Details:

  • Company: Rippling
  • Role: SDE Intern + Performance-Based PPO
  • College: Tier 2
  • Location: Bangalore
  • Internship Stipend: ₹1 Lakh/month
  • FTE CTC: ₹44 LPA (₹36 LPA Base + ₹8 LPA Other Components)
  • Result: Selected

Online Assessment (OA)

I received an email from our placement cell and applied for the opportunity. Next week, I received the OA link.

There were 3 DSA questions:

  1. Easy - String
  2. Medium - Binary Search
  3. Hard - Graph

Fortunately, I was able to solve all three questions.

After almost a week, our placement cell shared the list of shortlisted students, and luckily, I was one of them.

Round 1 - DSA

Question: Design an in-memory Task Scheduler supporting task insertion, deletion, and execution based on priority.

Follow-ups: Handle tasks with equal priority, optimize time complexity, and discuss how the solution would work for millions of tasks.

I used Java and explained my approach, data structures, and time complexities. The interviewer was mainly focused on problem-solving and optimization.

Round 2 - LLD

Question: Design a Splitwise-like Expense Sharing System.

The requirements were to add users, create groups, split expenses equally or by percentage, and track balances between users.

Follow-ups: How would you simplify debts between users? How would you make the design extensible for new split types?

I started with the basic classes and their relationships, then implemented the major functionalities in Java. We also discussed SOLID principles and design patterns.

Round 3 - HLD + DSA + Managerial

HLD: Design a Multi-Tenant Employee Leave Management System.

The interviewer asked me to design a system where multiple companies could manage employees, leave policies, approval workflows, and leave balances.

Follow-ups: Database design, multi-tenant data isolation, caching, handling concurrent leave requests, and scaling the system.

DSA: One medium-level problem based on HashMap and Sliding Window.

Projects: The interviewer asked me to explain my college projects in detail, including the architecture, database selection, technical challenges, and my individual contributions.

Java & Spring Boot: A few questions on HashMap internals, multithreading, dependency injection, REST APIs, and Spring Boot annotations.

Since most of my experience was with Java and Spring Boot, the interviewer mentioned that I would need to learn Python for their tech stack. I said I was comfortable learning new technologies.

For the last 10 minutes, we discussed Rippling's products, engineering culture, team collaboration, and what interns generally work on.

Overall, the discussion was quite interactive.

Final Result

After completing all the rounds, I was eagerly waiting for the results.

Finally, our placement cell announced the selected students, and I GOT SELECTED!

It was definitely one of the happiest moments of my college life.

Study Material

Sharing some resources I followed during my preparation:

LLD:

HLD:

One more suggestion: Always participate in LeetCode weekly and biweekly contests. They really help improve problem-solving speed, confidence, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Final Thoughts

Coming from a Tier 2 college, I know how competitive placements can be.

My advice is simple: Always stay prepared because you never know when an opportunity will come. Practice DSA consistently and don't ignore LLD and HLD.

And most importantly, believe in yourself and always have faith in God.

All the best to everyone preparing for placements. Hope this experience helps someone!
