Summary

I interviewed with Landmark Group for a role which included an initial technical screening, a supposed DSA round, and a final managerial discussion. Despite providing a working solution for a DSA problem, I was ultimately rejected.

Full Experience

Round 1 (Supposedly DSA)

I received a call from HR regarding a job opportunity, and we scheduled the first round. This round was supposedly focused on Data Structures and Algorithms, but it started with more general and system design questions.

  • The interviewer began by asking me to introduce myself and talk about my projects.
  • I was then asked about how user authentication is handled within my current organization.
  • Following that, the interviewer inquired about Kafka, specifically asking for an explanation of what it is and how it plays a significant role in my organization's architecture.
  • Finally, I was tasked with creating a UML Diagram to illustrate the complete workflow of a small-scale alert and notifications system.

After a few days, I received a call for the second round, which HR mentioned would be the final stage.

Round 2 (Managerial Round)

The interviewer in this round was quite direct, almost rude. For about half an hour, I was grilled extensively on my reasons for wanting to switch jobs. Questions included: "Isn't your organization good?" "Isn't it profitable?" "Is the work culture not satisfactory?" and similar inquiries.

After this intense discussion, the interviewer presented a DSA question:

Problem: "You have been given a number n. Return all the magic numbers until the number n (1 to n). A magic number is considered a number whose adjacent digits difference is 1. All the numbers from 1-9 are considered magic numbers. E.g. 12, 21, 232, 234."

I initially approached it with a brute-force solution. However, the interviewer wanted a more optimized approach. He provided hints, and with his guidance, I was eventually able to write a working solution. Despite this, he made some harsh comments about my coding skills, suggesting I was not living up to the reputation of my college (a top NIT).

Result:

I did not get selected for the position.
