Summary

I secured a summer internship at HSBC after clearing four interview rounds covering behavioral, coding, technical, and HR assessments.

How it went

i got the intern for next summers pune or hydrebad 50 k stipend

Round 1: Behavioural and English Assessment

The first round focused on English communication, comprehension, and general aptitude. Questions were presented in audio format, and we had to listen carefully and answer them in English.

The round included:

  • Paragraph-based questions and comprehension.
  • Puzzles and pattern-based questions.
  • Prepositions and grammar.
  • Other English language and verbal reasoning questions.

The main focus was on listening skills, English proficiency, grammar, and the ability to understand and respond accurately.

Round 2: DSA and Coding Assessment (OA)

The second round was an online assessment (OA) that involved programming, debugging, SQL, and data manipulation.

The assessment included:

  1. A standard DSA question involving loops.
  2. A debugging question in which we had to identify an error in a given solution.
  3. An SQL and Python-based task involving operations on an Excel sheet.
  4. An AI assistant was also provided to help with the assessment.

This round tested problem-solving skills, coding fundamentals, debugging ability, SQL knowledge, and practical data handling using Python.

Round 3: Technical Interview

The third round focused on my technical background, projects, DSA journey, and logical reasoning.

The interviewer asked me to:

  • Introduce myself.
  • Explain the projects I had worked on.
  • Discuss my DSA preparation and journey.
  • Solve logical and pattern-based questions.

Two examples of the questions asked were:

Question 1: Day-of-the-week pattern

A question involving the sequence of weekdays, such as Monday, Tuesday, and so on, where the pattern continued over a period of two weeks.

Question 2: Number pattern

Given the sequence:

24, 45, 56, 67, 78

The task was to identify the pattern and determine the next or missing element. The interviewer indicated 78 as the relevant result.

This round evaluated technical knowledge, project understanding, DSA preparation, logical thinking, and the ability to explain one's approach.

Round 4: HR Interview

The final round was the HR interview. It focused on my background, previous experience, and expectations from the company.

The interviewer asked:

  1. Tell me about yourself.
  2. What was discussed in the last presentation session conducted approximately a month ago?
  3. Have you completed any other internships before?
  4. What do you expect from HSBC?

This round assessed communication, confidence, awareness of the recruitment process, previous experience, and expectations from the internship.

Overall Experience

The HSBC internship selection process consisted of four rounds: a behavioural and English assessment, a DSA and coding OA, a technical interview, and an HR interview.

The process tested a combination of communication skills, coding fundamentals, debugging, SQL and Python, project knowledge, logical reasoning, and behavioural fit. It was not limited to DSA alone; English proficiency, practical problem-solving, and the ability to communicate clearly were also important.
