Summary

I interviewed for a Software Engineer position at Eventual in Oct 2026, completed an intro call, an AI‑assisted coding round, a database/schema design round, and a founder round, and ultimately received a rejection.

How it went

Company: Eventual https://eventual.com Role: Software Engineer

Current Org: Startup College: Tier-1 YOE: 8+ Current Comp: ~65L (Cash component) + ESOPs

Round 1 - Intro Call

  • Project discussions and a deep dive into how AI agents work.

Round 2 - AI Assisted Coding Round

  • Conducted on the HackerRank platform.
  • The task was to understand an existing codebase and write new logic into it.
  • Overall, it was a relatively easy problem.

Round 3 - Database / Schema Design

  • Task: Design the data tables and schema for an insurance broker commission tracking system, based on statements provided by insurance companies.
  • It was a decently challenging exercise. You had to think through and handle multiple edge cases and scenarios in the schema design.

Round 4 - Founder Round

  • Basic intro, followed by a deep dive into one of my past projects and some general technical questions.
  • The founder explicitly mentioned that they are very choosy and typically only pick "2 engineers out of 100."
  • Ended the call by saying he would review the feedback with the team and let me know the final decision, mentioning they might schedule an additional discussion round if needed.

Verdict: Rejected.
