Summary

I completed four interview rounds at Booking.com for an SDE 2 position in Amsterdam and received an offer.

How it went

Round 1 : HR Screening round

It was a one hour call with the HR , mostly a discussion about my past experiences , notable contributions , experiences leading projects etc .

Round 2 : Interview 1 - DSA

One hour coding interview . Line sweep and sliding window based problem . It was something along the lines of : Given an array of intervals where intervals[i] = [start_i, end_i] and an integer K (representing a time window size), return the maximum number of intervals that overlap with any single time window of size K . I directly coded the optimum solution using line sweep , explained time complexity and did a dry run . The interviewer was pleased.

Round 3 : Interview 2 - System Design

One and a half hour white board round where I was asked to design a food delivery system , focusing primarily on the riders delivering the order to the users . Had in-depth discussions on proximity search , optimistic concurrency control , redis , kafka etc. The interviewer was friendly and it was a very good experience.

Round 4 : Interview 3 - Culture fit

I was asked about the most recent project I had worked on . Should choose carefully because there were a lot of follow-ups on what was my contribution in it , if I lead it , then how did I come up with the proposed solution and what process I followed to get people to align with it . Lots of A/B testing related questions . There were also questions on conflict resolution .

Verdict : Received Offer
