Toptal Live Coding Round.
Summary
I attempted the Toptal live coding round, was given the "Valid Times on a Digital Clock" problem, but froze and failed.
Full Experience
Wont recommend to go through this process. But if you are still interested, here's what the live coding round was like:
- Was asked about experience and technologies I work on.
- Asked about online coding test questions - what they were, what approach did you take (not in detail , just a little)
- Then came the coding part. Was given a question .10 minute timer was started immediately. The interviewer had doubts about me using Copilot when my entire screen was shared. He thought that the copilot icon on VSCode meant I was using it. Even though it just meant that I had copilot installed but I was not using any of its features in the interview. I went to settings to double check for him and he wasnt convinced that I was not using Copilot. He spent another 2-3 minutes trying to tweak some settings with me for disabling an already disabled AI tool.
- Later he said, ok code. you have 6-7 minutes left.
- I froze. Couldnt do the simplest of problems. Result : Failed.
Question : https://stackoverflow.com/questions/73985406/valid-times-on-a-digital-clock
Btw it was the same question that was also asked in the online coding test and I had already done it . But in that interview I just couldnt type anything.
Free advice : Try other freelancing portals if you can. I feel the 10 minute timer was a little too much even for a simple problem. But that is how it is. Spend your time wisely.
