Summary

I interviewed for a Cloud AI Engineer role at Teradata, completed four rounds covering DSA, system design, AI/RAG design, and managerial questions, but was ultimately rejected.

How it went

Hi everyone,

I recently interviewed for the Cloud AI Engineer position at Teradata. I have approximately two years of software development experience.

Round 1: Technical and DSA

The discussion covered:

  • My professional experience and projects
  • DSA: Task Scheduler
  • Kubernetes
  • CI/CD
  • Computer science fundamentals

I explained the optimal solution for the coding problem and answered almost all the technical questions confidently.

Self-assessment: 9.5/10

Round 2: System Design and Coding

The interviewer asked about my projects and professional experience. The main design problem was a rate limiter.

I:

  • Designed the complete solution
  • Explained the requirements and different approaches
  • Discussed the relevant design patterns and trade-offs
  • Discussed all poosible rate limiters strategies
  • Covered scalability and concurrency considerations

I was also asked to design a scalable data-processing pipeline.

Self-assessment: 8/10

Round 3: AI and RAG Design

This round again started with a detailed discussion about my projects and experience.

The main question was to design a RAG system for an organization’s internal data, including integration with external tools. I discussed:

  • Data ingestion and document processing
  • Chunking and embedding generation
  • Vector database and retrieval
  • Metadata filtering
  • Reranking
  • Access control and data security
  • External-tool integration
  • Evaluation, monitoring, and scalability

Self-assessment: 9/10

Round 4: Managerial Round

The round began with questions about my past experience and projects. It then moved to standard behavioural and managerial questions, including:

  • Tell me about a conflict with a teammate or manager. How did you resolve it?
  • How do you keep your manager updated about your work?
  • How do you prioritize tasks?
  • Tell me about a disagreement with your manager.
  • How do you handle tight deadlines?
  • What are you looking for in your next role?
  • Where do you see yourself in the next few years?

Self-assessment: 8.5/10

Final Result

Overall, I felt that the interviews went well, and I was expecting a positive outcome. However, I received a rejection email three days after the managerial round. No detailed feedback was provided.

Although the outcome was disappointing, the overall interview experience was valuable. The process covered DSA, computer science fundamentals, Kubernetes, CI/CD, system design, data pipelines, RAG architecture, and behavioural questions.

I hope this experience helps others preparing for a Cloud AI Engineer interview at Teradata.

Questions asked (4)

  1. 01

    Task Scheduler

    Data Structures & Algorithms

LeetCode problem "Task Scheduler": Given a list of tasks represented by characters and a non-negative integer n representing the cooldown period, schedule the tasks to minimize the total intervals needed to complete all tasks while respecting the cooldown constraint.

    Open the problem
  2. 02

    Rate Limiter Design

    System Design

Design a rate limiter system. Explain requirements, possible approaches, design patterns, trade‑offs, scalability, and concurrency considerations.

  3. 03

    Scalable Data‑Processing Pipeline Design

    System Design

Design a scalable data‑processing pipeline. Consider data ingestion, processing stages, fault tolerance, scaling, and performance.

  4. 04

    RAG System Design

    System Design

Design a Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) system for an organization’s internal data, including integration with external tools, data ingestion, chunking, embedding generation, vector storage, retrieval, metadata filtering, reranking, access control, security, evaluation, monitoring, and scalability.
