Syfe SDE II Backend Interview Experience

Experience: 3 years 3 months

Current Role: Software Engineer at a FAANG company in India

Education: B.Tech, CS, Tier 1, India

Current Compensation: ₹33 LPA

I recently interviewed for an SDE II Backend Engineering role at Syfe, India.

Application

I found about that role on LinkedIn and applied directly through a LinkedIn message to the recruiter.

After a week, I received a call to come to the office for face-to-face interview.

Round 1 - Low Level Design

Duration: 60 minutes

This was an elimination round. It was on LLD design. I was asked to design the LLD of:

  • A stock brokerage system, with emphasis on allocation and de-allocation of stocks from client to system and system to stock exchange.
  • I have to write the classes, show the relationship, write the DB schema, mention the Design Patterns and write 1 method() on the white-board.

Result: Hire

After this round, I was moved to the 2nd stage round

Round 2 - High Level Design

Duration: 45 minutes

This was an elimination round. It was on HLD design. I was asked to design the HLD of:

  • An app similar to ChatGPT with emphasis on how token limit is reached by user, handling multiple user profiles and authentication flow.

I explained everything and talked about caches, DBs, APIs, protocols. Basically I had to inform about every design decision. Eg; why WebSockets, why not SSE. Why SQL, why not NoSQL. Why a cache here and not there.

Result: Hire

After this round, I was moved to the final interview round

Round 3 - High Level Design

Duration: 60 minutes

This was an elimination round and final round with the CTO. It was on HLD design. I was asked to design the HLD of:

  • A flash sale for e-commerece. Eg; Flipkart Big Billion Day with special emphasis on handling and sending millions of notifications on that day.

I explained my design but there were lot of questions on scaling, resilience and other non-functinal requirements, which I think I did not answer satisfactorily.

Result: No Hire

Final Outcome

Result: Rejected

I am currently also in interview loops with 2 other companies. I'll share the interview experiences for those companies as well once I have the final outcomes.
