Summary

After being laid off, I successfully navigated through multiple interviews, finally securing an SDE-1 Backend offer from Simplotel in Bengaluru after completing a five-round process.

Full Experience

Hi all, I'm sharing my seventh interview experience after facing a layoff, which was a significant turning point in my job search. I had around 1 year and 4 months of experience before my previous company laid me off. The situation felt horrific, especially because I'd lost touch with DSA, compounded by the challenging market at the time. After taking a day to regroup, I started creating accounts on popular job boards and utilized a LinkedIn Premium trial for a month to boost my search.

I applied for the SDE-1 Backend position at Simplotel in Bengaluru through BigShyft, with the role requiring 1-3 years of experience.

Round 1: This was a quick 15-20 minute round focused on Python concepts. I was given an easy, logic-based question to solve in Python: "Valid Parentheses."

Round 2: This was a 30-minute Multiple Choice Question-based Online Assessment covering Data Structures and Algorithms.

Round 3: This one-hour round delved into Django concepts. The interviewer shared links to three easy-to-medium problems from InterviewBit. Towards the end, they informed me that I'd receive a small Django Backend assignment to complete.

I completed and submitted the assignment, which led to the next round.

Round 4: This round involved a mix of technical and conceptual questions. I was asked indirectly, through a use case, how I would implement a feature like blocking a seat in a cinema until a timeout, similar to the booking process on Paytm. Other questions covered Django ORM filter queries, middlewares, and decorators.

Round 5: The final round focused on behavioral aspects. I was indirectly asked about my strengths and weaknesses and faced several situation-based questions. I made sure to represent myself as an ideal fit for a fast-paced work environment.

I finally received feedback that I was selected! This entire interview process felt comparatively easier than some of my previous ones, but it was certainly exhaustive due to the five rounds involved.
