Summary

I was selected for the SWE-1 role after successfully completing a 4-round interview process at OpenGov.

Full Experience

Online Assessment (Round 1) The OA was proctored and consisted of a mix of MCQs and coding questions.

MCQs: Covered general aptitude, logical reasoning, and core CS fundamentals.

Coding: 3 questions ranging from basic to advanced. The basic question was SQL-based, while the other two focused on DSA. I was able to partially solve the intermediate problem (a string manipulation problem using a sliding window and hash maps) and passed the majority of the test cases before running out of time.

Technical Interview 1 (Round 2)

DSA/Problem Solving: I was asked a string parsing and formatting question. The core task was to take a string of delimited data, parse it, and map each item to its correct underlying data type while handling edge cases for out-of-bounds or invalid formats. I coded this out and handled the edge cases in about 15 minutes.

System Design: We moved on to a design discussion based on an AI-integration project from my resume. The interviewer asked me to design a system for analytics. We discussed functional requirements, embedding strategies, vector databases, and audit logging.

Follow-up: The interviewer asked how to handle service outages or sudden credit limit drops to ensure a smooth user experience. We discussed state management and touched upon orchestration frameworks.

Technical/Managerial Interview 2 (Round 3)

Resume Deep Dive: The interviewer asked about my most complex past internship project, which involved backend infrastructure and resource provisioning.

Architecture & Scaling: We had a deep discussion on design choices. The interviewer grilled me on how I decided on resource allocation limits and node requirements. We also went through hypothetical scaling scenarios, discussing horizontal vs. vertical scaling, DB sharding, caching strategies, message queues, and read/write replicas.

General Tech: Briefly discussed my workflow when integrating new tools/frameworks into a project. The interviewer also asked what my primary expectations were for this role (I focused on learning and growth).

HR Interview (Round 4)

Standard behavioral round. The interviewer asked for a brief introduction, discussed my background, and asked for my general perspective on emerging industry trends and how I evaluate when to use certain tools versus traditional solutions to improve productivity.

General Thoughts: The process was incredibly smooth and all the interviewers were highly professional. We started with introductions in every round. The results were announced shortly after the process concluded.

Compensation: Standard entry-level SDE package for the region (Base + Variable + RSUs vested over 4 years). 6-month internship stipend is also provided.

Interview Questions (2)

1.

Delimited Data String Parsing and Type Mapping

Data Structures & Algorithms

The task was to take a string containing delimited data, parse it, and map each item to its correct underlying data type while handling edge cases such as out-of-bounds indices or invalid formats.

2.

Analytics System Design for AI Integration

System Design

Design a system for analytics that supports AI integration as described in my resume. Discuss functional requirements, embedding strategies, vector databases, audit logging, and overall architecture.
