Summary

I attended the first round Bar Raiser interview for SDE 2 at Kotak in Bangalore, which included DSA coding, low‑level design, and high‑level design questions.

Full Experience

  1. DSA - 40 mins two ques
  2. LLD - 30 mins
  3. HLD generic ques - 20 mins

DSA -

  1. https://leetcode.com/problems/search-in-rotated-sorted-array/description/
  2. https://leetcode.com/problems/longest-common-prefix/description/

Was stuck on 2nd question and gave a O(n3) approach You will be asked to code in ide with custom input. I was having problem in std c++.

LLD - Design a restaurant LLD - authentication, restaurant/menu, Cart management, payment.

Asked to focus on APIs, DB Schema, Class Design, Design patterns.

Time was less so he skipped Class design

He wanted to hear state pattern which I was not aware about.

HLD -

  1. How would you handle idempotency in create order
  2. Distributed locks
  3. Network partitioning

Interview Questions (6)

1.

Search in Rotated Sorted Array

Data Structures & Algorithms·Medium

Given an integer array nums sorted in ascending order, possibly rotated at an unknown pivot, and an integer target, search for target in nums. If found, return its index, otherwise return -1. The algorithm must run in O(log n) time.

2.

Longest Common Prefix

Data Structures & Algorithms·Easy

Given an array of strings, find the longest common prefix string amongst all strings. If there is no common prefix, return an empty string.

3.

Restaurant System Design

System Design

Design a restaurant system covering authentication, menu management, cart management, and payment. Focus on defining APIs, database schema, class design, and appropriate design patterns.

4.

Handle Idempotency in Create Order

System Design

Explain how you would ensure that creating an order is idempotent, preventing duplicate orders when the request is retried.

5.

Distributed Locks

System Design

Discuss approaches for implementing distributed locks in a microservice architecture, including trade‑offs and failure scenarios.

6.

Network Partitioning

System Design

Describe how you would handle network partitioning scenarios in a distributed system, ensuring consistency and availability.
