Summary

I interviewed with JioHotstar for an SDE-2 Backend role and successfully cleared 3 rounds, which included DSA, System Design, and a Hiring Manager round. I was offered the position after a smooth process.

Full Experience

Recently I got a chance to interview with JioHotstar (formerly Disney + Hotstar), The role was SDE-2 and they wanted someone with proficiency in Golang.

The process was straightforward and very smooth. Overall 3 rounds were there

Round-1: (Projects + DSA + Golang)

We started with each other's introduction, then the interviewer asked me regarding my projects, she asked me about production incidents that I faced and how I resolved them, also she asked me about how I dealt with high traffic, when thousands of users concurrently joined tournament. Apart from that she asked me about autoscaling, how to scale infra etc.

Then after this discussion she went ahead with a Dynamic Programming problem, which was similar to Number of ways we can generate coin change given infinite supply of coins.

I started with a Recursive Brute force solution, explained time complexity. Then she asked me to code it. After that she asked me to optimise it. I used memoisation to optimise it, she further asked me to optimise it so coded the tabulation approach.

After this she asked me to space optimise it, which I did successfully. She seemed satisfied and went ahead with Golang specific questions related to Goroutines, channels and interfaces.

Round-2 (Projects + High Level System Design)

The Interviewer first deep dived in one of my projects, asked me about scaling, and websocket specific questions. He asked me about consistent Hashing etc.

Then he gave me a High level Design problem, where I was asked to design a Feature Flag Management system, it took me a while to understand the problem statement but it was clear after asking a lot of clarifying questions. I had a thorough discussion with the interviewer regarding all the approaches, Database choices, caching, API design etc. I was unsure of my performance in this round but was later told by HR that I got a positive feedback.

Round-3 (HM Round)

We started with our introductions, then the interviewer discussed in detail some of my projects. I was surprised as the interviewer also asked me to explain my internship project, which usually has never happened with me in past interviews but still I explained everything in detail.

He later asked me behavioral questions and questions like Why leave my current organisation. He also asked me a lot of questions related to Redis, its internals and use cases.

After this we had a thoughtful discussion about his journey and experience, regarding the team for which I was interviewing for. The interviewer was quite chill and very understanding.

Overall the discussion went well.

After 2 days I was told by HR that I'm selected and asked me to send my documents.
