Summary

I interviewed for a Senior Software Engineer - Fullstack role at Freshworks, went through a DSA round focusing on Stock Span problems and a deep JavaScript/frontend round, but ultimately received a rejection.

Full Experience

Recently appeared for the Senior Software Engineer - Fullstack interview at Freshworks and wanted to share my experience. Hope this helps others preparing for the process.

Round 1: DSA + Resume Discussion

  • Deep discussion on my current project, architecture, performance optimizations, and ownership.
  • DSA questions were based on the Stock Span problem:
    • Stock Span I
    • Stock Span II
    • Stock Span III

Round 2: Frontend Round (JavaScript heavy)

This round was strongly focused on JavaScript fundamentals and browser internals.

Topics asked

  • What are semantic HTML elements and why are they important?
  • Performance comparison:
    • left: 200px
    • transform: translateX(200px)
    • Which is faster and why?
  • Difference between async and defer in the <script> tag.
  • Difference between Shadow DOM and Virtual DOM.
  • Several in-depth JavaScript questions on execution model, closures, event loop, and rendering (don’t remember all of them).
  • Design a tooltip using only HTML/CSS (constraint: no JavaScript).
  • Implement flattening of a nested array and discuss extending it via Array prototype.
  • Explain React Fiber and how React scheduling/reconciliation works.

After the second round, I also received a rejection message.

Overall Feedback

  • Interviewers were friendly but expected strong conceptual understanding rather than memorized answers.
  • The frontend round was significantly deeper than a typical React interview and focused heavily on JavaScript internals and browser performance.
  • Be prepared to explain why something works, not just what it is.

For anyone preparing for Freshworks Fullstack roles, I’d recommend revising: JavaScript internals, browser rendering pipeline, CSS performance, React Fiber, DOM APIs, and stack-based DSA problems.

Happy to answer questions if anyone is preparing for the same role.

Interview Questions (8)

1.

Stock Span I

Data Structures & Algorithms

Implement the Stock Span I problem, which typically requires computing the span of stock’s price for each day based on previous days’ prices.

2.

Stock Span II

Data Structures & Algorithms

Implement the Stock Span II variation, a more complex version of the Stock Span problem (details not specified in the post).

3.

Stock Span III

Data Structures & Algorithms

Implement the Stock Span III variation, an advanced version of the Stock Span problem (details not specified in the post).

4.

Design a tooltip using only HTML/CSS

Other

Create a tooltip component using only HTML and CSS without any JavaScript, adhering to the given constraints.

5.

Flatten a nested array and extend via Array prototype

Data Structures & Algorithms

Implement a function to flatten a nested array and discuss how to add this functionality to the Array prototype.

6.

Performance comparison: left:200px vs transform:translateX(200px)

Other

Explain which CSS property—left: 200px or transform: translateX(200px)—is faster for moving an element and why.

7.

Difference between async and defer in script tags

Other

Describe the difference between the async and defer attributes when loading external JavaScript via the <script> tag.

8.

Difference between Shadow DOM and Virtual DOM

Other

Explain the differences between Shadow DOM and Virtual DOM, including their purposes and how they operate in the browser.

Preparation Tips

Revise JavaScript internals, browser rendering pipeline, CSS performance, React Fiber, DOM APIs, and practice stack-based DSA problems such as the Stock Span variations.
