Summary

I interviewed for a Senior Software Engineer in Test role at Barracuda Networks. I solved a 2-sum coding problem but was rejected after the interview.

Full Experience

Hi everyone,

With the help of my past colleague i got the call from the HR of Barracuda Networks. She mostly asked me the reason for the layoffs. I have gone through multiple layoffs from 2020 (corona, company loss and AI).

Here's the round breakdown I was given:

Round 1 - With hiring manager
He asked me general questions that are present in my resume. He asked the same question why you have been laid off multiple times. I said the reason. He asked me about my marital status. He asked me to solve one question.

Coding question asked in Round 1: 2 sum problem
I solved it correctly. He started asking me to provide the correct solution for the given test case. Later i given a solution that works only for that test case. He told me this is the solution he expected.

Test case:
arr = [0,1,2,3,4,5]
sum = 5

I have given Two pointer solution. [[0,5], [1,4], [2,3]] checking first element and last element, then keep on increasing and decreasing the index

I clearly said that this solution will work only for this test case. This solution will not work for other case

I started thinking about the programming skills of this manager. People are started losing their skills because of AI. In the near future everyone brain is just a garbage.

Even after after solving the solution, I got rejected.

After multiple request from HR i got to know the rejection status. I connected with my colleague who referred me. Recently, there were layoffs happened in Barracuda Networks. I shocked then why the HR asked me about the layoffs.

HR and company be like - we will do layoffs and we will ask the reason while interviewing you

Two Sum (specific test case)

Data Structures & Algorithms·Easy

Given an integer array arr and a target sum sum, find all pairs of elements whose values add up to the target. The test case provided was:

arr = [0,1,2,3,4,5]
sum = 5

The candidate used a two‑pointer approach, pairing the first and last elements and moving inward, resulting in pairs [[0,5], [1,4], [2,3]]. The interviewer expected a solution that works for this specific test case.
