Summary

I cleared three interview rounds (DSA, HLD, and resume discussion) and was offered a hire, but the process stalled and I withdrew my application after 75 days of no communication.

How it went

Avathon SDE 2 Interview Experience

Experience: 3 years 3 months

Current Role: Software Engineer at a FAANG company in India

Education: B.Tech, CS, Tier 1, India

Current Compensation: ₹33 LPA

Application

I found about that role on LinkedIn and applied directly through a LinkedIn message to the recruiter. After a week, I got a call from the recruiter and she scheduled the 1st round.

Round 1 - DSA

Duration: 30 minutes

Question - 3 Sum - https://leetcode.com/problems/3sum/description/

I did it directly with most optimal approach. This was an elimination round and after this round, I was moved to the 2nd round next week.

Result: Hire

Round 2 - HLD

Duration: 45 minutes

This was a conversational HLD round. The interviewer asked me questions like:

.NET

  1. What is .NET? What is .NET Core vs. .NET Framework?
  2. What is CLR?
  3. How do memory management and garbage collection work in .NET?
  4. What is an abstract class in C#?
  5. What is the structure of an ASP.NET Core project?

System Design

  1. Monolith vs. microservices? Examples of microservices in a company?
  2. What are cloud providers like AWS and Azure?
  3. What are message queues, and why do we need them? Examples of message queue technologies? RabbitMQ vs. Kafka?
  4. What is Apache ZooKeeper?
  5. What is distributed locking, and which technologies support it?

Caching & Databases

  1. What is Redis, and where is it used? How does Redis work? What are common Redis commands? When should we cache data in Redis? Should we cache frequently changing flight prices or post like counts?
  2. What is a Bloom Filter? Bloom Filter vs. cache vs. database?
  3. SQL query to find the second-highest salary?

Authentication & Security

  1. Authentication vs. authorization?
  2. What is JWT vs OAuth2.0?

Frontend

  1. What is React?
  2. What is the Virtual DOM? Why does React use a Virtual DOM while Angular doesn't?
  3. What is Redux, and why do we need it?
  4. What is a Promise in JavaScript?

This was an elimination round and I was able to answer most of the questions and was moved to 3rd round next week.

Result: Hire

Round 3 - Resume & Project Discussion

Duration: 45 minutes

In this round, the interviewer discussed my past projects at my current company, including the tech stack, my responsibilities, and my contributions. It was a conversational round, with occasional questions such as Docker vs. Kubernetes and SQL vs. NoSQL, based on the information provided on my resume.

Result: Hire

After clearing all three rounds, I was informed that only one final behavioral round remained. However, my application was put on hold, and I was left waiting for 75 days without any updates or a scheduled interview. Given the lack of communication and professionalism throughout this process, I eventually withdrew my application and clearly communicated my reasons to Avathon leadership team so they can fix this broken process!

Final Outcome
