Summary

I cleared the Amazon SDET off‑campus interview process and received an offer after four rounds including an online assessment, technical interview, testing round, and hiring‑manager interview.

Full Experience

Role: Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET-1)
Education: Tier-2 Engineering College
2025 passed out
Mode: Off-campus
Platform: Amazon Careers Portal

Round 1: Online Assessment (OA)
The first round was an Online Assessment conducted on a private test platform. The duration was around 90 minutes.
Structure:

  • Part 1: Coding (1 Question)
    Level: Leetcode easy
Topic: Arrays (Maximum number of close pairs)
Efficient coding and edge‑case handling were critical.
  • Part 2: CS Fundamentals (MCQs)
5 Questions from each core CS topic: Operating Systems, DBMS, Computer Networks, OOPs, Data Structures and Algorithms.
Conceptual clarity was tested rather than rote memorization. Topics like ACID properties, indexing in DBMS, page replacement algorithms, and basic TCP/IP stack were covered.

Round 2: Technical Interview (~1 Hour)
1‑on‑1 virtual interview conducted by an Amazon engineer.
Coding Section:
1 LeetCode Medium question
Topics: Arrays, DP, Greedy
Problem: minimum number of jumps required to reach end of array
Emphasis on optimal solution & edge cases.

Round 3: Testing Round (~1 Hour)
Focused on evaluating testing mindset, system thinking, and ability to create comprehensive test plans.

  • Question 1: "Enumerate test cases for an API post request /orders itemId string, quantity integer 1-100, shipping address object"
  • Question 2: "Test Strategy for a payment microservice and how would you develop one"
  • Question 3: "Manual testing and automation testing"

Round 4: Hiring Manager Interview (~1 Hour)
Resume grilling + project deep dive + some Behavioral questions related to Amazon's leadership principles.

Got the offer call after a week from round 4 interview. Verdict: SELECTED

Final Thoughts
Know your basics: CS MCQs weren't trivia — they required good understanding.
Practice LeetCode Mediums + 1‑2 Hard problems from DP, Trees, Graphs, and Backtracking.
For the testing round, prep system test cases for apps you built or common products.
Confidence and clarity help — especially in remote interviews.

Interview Questions (4)

1.

Maximum number of close pairs

Data Structures & Algorithms·Easy

Find the maximum number of close pairs in an array. (Arrays, LeetCode Easy).

2.

Minimum jumps to reach end of array

Data Structures & Algorithms·Medium

Given an array of non‑negative integers where each element represents the maximum jump length from that position, determine the minimum number of jumps required to reach the last index.

3.

API test case enumeration for /orders endpoint

Other

Enumerate test cases for an API POST request /orders with parameters: itemId (string), quantity (integer 1‑100), shipping address (object).

4.

Test strategy for a payment microservice

Other

Design a test strategy for a payment microservice, describing how you would develop and execute it.

Preparation Tips

I focused on strengthening CS fundamentals, practiced LeetCode medium and hard problems (DP, trees, graphs, backtracking), and prepared testing test cases and strategies for APIs and microservices.
