Summary
I shared my SDE-1 interview experience with Amazon, which included Leadership Principles questions and a classic 'Number of Islands' DSA problem. Despite a positive Round 1, I faced communication issues with HR, leaving the outcome uncertain and me seeking advice.
Full Experience
Hey folks, just wanted to share my experience with Amazon's interview process — might help someone out there or at least give some closure vibes to those still waiting like me 😅
Gave the OA in the first week of March 2025 (2023 batch).
Got a call from HR for the first round and had the interview on March 25th.
Round 1 - Interview (March 25) Duration: ~60 mins Structure:
First ~15 mins were around Amazon’s Leadership Principles, especially the one about "Learn and Be Curious" / "Have Backbone; Disagree and Commit" (don’t remember exact wording) 🗣 Question was something like: “Tell me about a time you had to work outside your domain/comfort zone and how you handled it.” The interviewer kept digging into it — follow-ups were deep.
Next 30-35 mins was DSA — classic Leetcode Question was based on Number of Islands. Was asked to:
Explain approach
Write code
Optimize Interviewer seemed pretty impressed with the solution and explanation (said “good work” at the end of that part so yay 😄)
Last 15 mins was just casual convo — talked about their team, the kind of work they do, what tech stack, challenges etc. Interviewer was super chill, gave good insights into their day-to-day.
Then… radio silence 🎧 Got a call from HR on March 28th (3 days after the round , 4 missed call 😭 unlucky timing).
Tried calling back, no response.
Emailed — no reply.
So yeah, now I’m just in this awkward limbo where I might be rejected or might be shortlisted for the next round but there's no official update.
Anyone else in the same boat? Would appreciate any advice — like should I keep following up or just let it go and move on?
