Amazon Interview Experience
Summary
I interviewed for a role at Amazon, covering resume discussion, leadership principles, and solving two coding problems: Course Schedule and Closest K Elements in a Sorted Array.
Full Experience
I recently interviewed for the Amazon role . Sharing my interview experience in case it helps others preparing for similar roles.
Interview Experience
Initially, the interviewer asked me to introduce myself. After that, we discussed some of the projects mentioned on my resume. The interviewer asked questions about my project work and my contributions.
Then, the interviewer asked a Leadership Principle–based question related to my results/achievements. I explained the situation and my approach.
After that, we moved to the coding/DSA portion. I was given two problems:
1. Course Schedule / Course Scheduler 2. Closest K Elements in a Sorted Array
For both problems, the interviewer was interested not only in the final solution but also in my approach and reasoning.
They asked several cross-questions, including why I chose a particular approach, how the algorithm works, and what the complexity would be. I was also asked to dry-run the solution on examples.
For the coding part, I had to write the code on a notepad using Amazon's personalized interview coding environment, rather than using a normal IDE.
Overall, the interview focused heavily on:
- Resume/project discussion
- Amazon Leadership Principles
- DSA problem-solving
- Explaining the approach clearly
- Dry runs
- Cross-questioning
- Time and space complexity
- Writing code without relying on an IDE
I found the interview to be quite focused on problem-solving and how well I could explain my thought process, rather than simply getting the final code.
