Summary

I interviewed for an SDE Intern position at Amazon, completed an OA and two on‑site rounds consisting of DSA, system design, and behavioral questions, and received an offer.

Full Experience

Hello Everyone,

I would like to share my experience of the interview process.

So, we didn't qualify the hackon round, but I passed all the test cases.

29 July: received the interest form
3 Aug: received the OA link
4 Aug: Completed the OA, in 1st question all test cases were passed and in second (development) passed 3/6 test cases.

14 Aug: received the email of interviews to be scheduled between 19‑21 Aug

19 Aug (Round 1): Two interviewers and one shadow. After a short intro they jumped to DSA questions. First was similar to Fruit Into Baskets, which I solved completely. Then they gave a second question: find max in a rotated sorted array. They also asked about test cases of map and unordered_map and how they work internally, followed by 3‑4 behavioral questions (conflict, decision, initiative, etc.). Both interviewers were interactive and overall good.

20 Aug (Round 2): After 4‑5 hours I received a call from the recruiter. The hiring manager was late. After a short intro they asked about my academic/relevant background, then 2‑3 GenAI questions (where do you use GenAI, how, problems with it). Then came 2 DSA questions: first was Longest Substring Without Repeating Characters. The second was a non‑standard problem: given a string, find the longest substring that occurs at least twice (non‑overlapping). I asked for 5 minutes to think, gave a brute‑force approach, requested another 2 minutes for an optimized solution, struggled a bit, wrote the brute‑force code, then managed to produce an optimized solution without hints and performed a dry run with a fabricated test case. The interview was pressured due to time constraints, but I survived.

After the interview I asked several questions and received feedback: improve on GenAI, leadership principles, and communication. The interview was “not that good but not that bad too”.

I followed up weekly for the result; most of the time they ignored me. On 21 Sep I received the mail of selection.

If you want to ask something you can ask me.

Thanks
