My Interview Experience at Hitachi Vantara

I recently had my interview experience at Hitachi Vantara for an Associate role, which was conducted as an online drive with a 5 LPA compensation package.

Round 1: Coding + MCQ

This round consisted of two basic hands-on problems involving arrays and strings. I believe solving around 150-200 problems on LeetCode related to these topics would make them easily solvable. Additionally, there were 80 MCQ questions covering data structures, aptitude, basic computer fundamentals, and some basic web development concepts.

After about 15-20 days, results were declared, and I was among the 90 candidates shortlisted out of 1400 for the second round. Five days later, I received an email for the technical interview.

Round 2: Technical Interview

The technical interview began with a pleasant conversation. The interviewer noticed my hobbies, singing and cooking, mentioned in my resume. We had a brief chat about my passion for cooking and trying new dishes. She expressed her appreciation for my attitude.

Following the ice-breaker, she introduced herself, and then we moved on to the technical questions. She asked me to tell her about my family and my technical skills. She also inquired if I was familiar with web development, even though I hadn't explicitly mentioned it in my skills.

She then delved into some basic web development questions:

  • How many heading tags are there? (I was unsure of the exact count but explained the hierarchy: h1 for largest, h2 for smaller, etc. She then clarified there are 6 heading tags.)
  • How to import CSS and JavaScript files into an HTML file.
  • Why we need JavaScript for web development.
  • What are static pages?

I answered all these questions to the best of my knowledge.

Next, she moved to Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts, asking:

  • What are classes and objects?
  • The difference between Overloading and Overriding.
  • What is Encapsulation?

There were also some basic questions on DBMS, all of which I answered. The technical round lasted about 20-25 minutes.

At the end, I asked two questions: (1) what problems freshers commonly face at Hitachi Vantara, so I could prepare, and (2) what suggestions she had for me based on the interview. She explained everything thoroughly, wished me luck, and concluded the round.

Three days later, I received a call informing me that I was shortlisted for the next round, and the HR round was scheduled for the same day.

Round 3: HR Round

The HR round was brief, lasting about 7-8 minutes. We discussed my hobbies again, specifically singing and cooking, and my favorite holiday destination.

Two days after the HR round, I received the selection confirmation email on September 30, 2022. I was one of the 19 students selected for the Associate role.
