Summary

My interview experience with GE Vernova for a Senior Staff Software Engineer role was highly disorganized and discourteous. The process involved abrupt shifts between topics, constant interruptions, and an interrogation-like approach focused on listing patterns and principles rather than constructive discussion.

Full Experience

My interview experience with GE Vernova.

The interview process felt disorganized and discourteous from the start. I was asked last minute on Friday to attend an interview the very next day, with little time to prepare. During the interview, the interviewer kranti kept his camera off the entire time while asking me to keep mine on, a basic lack of professional courtesy that made the conversation feel one-sided and impersonal.

While explaining my project, I was interrupted constantly, nearly over 10 times within the first 20 minutes, often mid-sentence. It was unclear whether the interviewer was taking notes or simply not paying attention. At times, the interruptions appeared less like clarifying questions and more like disjointed commentary, making it nearly impossible to maintain a coherent explanation.

He then abruptly shifted to asking for a Swiggy HLD. During the requirement gathering phase, I was cut off almost immediately and told to "just make a replica of Swiggy." As I started building the diagram and explaining my thought process, I was again interrupted, this time criticized for not having a service in place I was clearly in the process of explaining. This aggressive and impatient approach did not foster a constructive technical discussion, nor did it create a fair platform to demonstrate my skills.

The final part of the interview rapidly turned into a checklist: list all microservice patterns, all Java design patterns, and SOLID principles, with no room for discussion or practical depth. The entire experience felt more like an interrogation than an evaluation of problem-solving or design thinking.

I continued out of professionalism, but honestly, the approach and tone of the interview raised serious red flags about the team’s culture and values.

This feedback is shared in the hope it helps improve the candidate experience going forward, because this interaction left a very poor impression of both the interviewer and the organization.
